Just because Ladysmith doesn’t have a mayoral race, doesn’t mean there is nothing to decide.
Nine candidates are running for six council spots, eight people are running for the seven school trustee positions and there are two referendum questions as well.
Lake Cowichan has three mayoral candidates and eight candidates running for four council spots, while Duncan has four people running for mayor.
The City of Totems also has 12 candidates running for six council spots.
Meantime, the mayoral race in the Municipality of North Cowichan is rich with experience.
Jon Lefebure has been the Mayor of North Cowichan for 13 years and he’s seeking re-election.
He’s opposed by councillor Al Siebring, who’s been on council for three terms and Joyce Behnsen, a councillor in her own right for since 2014.
The crowded council race is made up of 14 candidates and only six spots around the table.
While Blaise Salmon and Ian Morrison have been acclaimed as electoral area directors in areas A and F respectively, the race for the other seven CVRD positions includes 18 candidates.
