Cowichan Housing Association, Busy after Referendum

The referendum question relating to affordable housing passed by more than 2,000 votes during the 2018 municipal election.

The Cowichan Housing Association is a hub of activity and Chris Hall with the CHA said an attainable housing strategy is nearing completion.

“There’s an attainable housing strategy that’s in its final stages, there’s another series of public meetings coming up in November, which will give residents in each of the communities throughout the region a chance to re-examine what it is they feel is needed, and how best to accommodate that,” said Hall.

With the municipal election in the rear view mirror, the new CVRD board needs to make decisions that Hall said will help determine what future budgets look like.

“We need to meet with the CVRD to go over the contribution agreements,” said Hall. “Before that can happen the regional board needs to get organized and make decisions first. We will wait for that process to unfold which will give us a much better idea of how our budgets will be.”
