Most of us have heard of Airbnb but there’s a new player in the market for people who like to camp but want a different experience than a provincial campground might offer.
Campertunity is a B.C. based website that hopes to expand across the country.
Landowners, with farms or ranches, can offer up their property to campers and the prices on the site currently range from 6 dollars a night to 120.
Co-founder of the initiative is Guita Yazdani.
“If you are looking for a campsite in a certain area, you can just click on it and there’s a whole bunch of details. On our website, you can message the landowner too, or the host, and ask if there are any hiking trails nearby, or biking or lakes or anything like that to kind of help you plan what you are looking for.”
There are about 20 listings now after a soft launch of the site including one in Gibsons.
Yazdani says the idea came to her after she had the opportunity to camp on private land.
“There was just such a difference (from a government campground) in how it was done. So, it was during that process that I thought, well, why isn’t this a thing, I mean, it makes sense in the shared economy, we share our homes, we share cars, we share so much why can’t we share our backyards. So, that’s how it kind of came to be.”
The initiative is up for a Best Concept Award with Small Business B.C.
