First non-government retail cannabis license handed out

The first legal, private non-medical cannabis retail store license in B.C. has been issued.

But it’s not in our vicinity, it’s in Kimberley.

The province says additional private, non-medical cannabis retail store licenses will be issued as applicants proceed through the licensing process.

The province has a total of 255 applications in the queue.

On Vancouver Island 27 of them have been referred to local governments.

Most cannabis retail stores closed on the day recreational marijuana became legal to boost their efforts in the licensing application process.

In the Cowichan Valley, most stores closed their doors, but, if you look hard enough, you will find some still operating.
