Stop the Spread of Invasive Mussels

Invasive mussels are a problem in BC waters and it was one of the issues discussed during a conference call with the BC Conservation Officer service recently.

The province has an Invasive Mussel Defence Program, which aims to prevent the introduction of Zebra and Quagga mussels into BC waters and Conservation Officer Nicole Caithness has some tips for stopping the spread of these molluscs.

“It’s important to follow the Clean, Drain, and Dry principle after every use and before you enter your watercraft into another water body to help stop the spread of invasive species,” said Caithness.”

This principle also applies to canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards.
