Cowichan councils to be Sworn in

The City of Duncan will have their inaugural council meeting today (Mon) with a number of new councilors in the chairs.

The new mayor, Michelle Staples will be sworn in, along with Bob Brooke, Garry Bruce, Jenni Capps, Tom Duncan, and Stacy Middlemiss

On the agenda is to appoint Michelle Staples to the Cowichan Valley Regional District Board and Tom Duncan as the alternate.

The town of Ladysmith will also hold it’s inaugural meeting of council today (Mon).

The swearing in will be held at the Ladysmith Seniors Centre.

Among other appointments, the mayor and council will determine who will sit on the CVRD board.

Wednesday, North Cowichan will hold it’s first meeting with the newly elected councilors and Al Siebring in the Mayor’s chair.

The 7 member body will determine who will be sent to sit on the CVRD Board and who the alternates will be.

Based on the population numbers, North Cowichan sends three people to the CVRD Board.

The mayor is usually one of those, but it doesn’t have to be.
