VIU closes Nanaimo campus for the day

There’s been a medical emergency at the Nanaimo Campus of Vancouver Island University.

Alan Cumbers, the assistant vice president of facilities and ancillary services, says there was a medical emergency on campus during the noon hour today (Mon) when someone fell from the rooftop of the library.

“Right now we are focusing on providing support to our VIU community. For that we are arranging supports for employees and students. We’ve got Homewood Health for our employees and from Island Health for students. The Library, we closed this afternoon, and we are just in the process of cancelling all the classes for the rest of the day.”

Cumbers says, he expects, it will be business as usual on campus tomorrow (Tues).

The person, who fell from the building, who was airlifted from the scene has died and the Coroner’s service is investigating.
