Shots fired by police – updated

The name of the man who died in a police shooting Saturday on Mill Bay Road has been released.

27-year-old Chris Bloomfield was shot by police Saturday and died from his injuries.

Shawnigan Lake RCMP says they were called to a report of an assault and upon entering the house trailer, Bloomfield advanced on the officers with a knife.

Police tried to use a taser first but their efforts were unsuccessful.

The Independent Investigation Office of BC has been notified and is investigating as is the usual procedure when police have been involved in a shooting.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Independent Investigations Office of BC.
