Governments and communities kick in to look at flooding issues

The Federal and Provincial governments have announced funding to address flooding in our region.

16 point 5 million dollars will be spent on 32 projects under the National Disaster Mitigation Program.

The project here will update the flood mapping for the lower Cowichan and Koksilah floodplain.

It will use updated LiDAR data, and recent Federal and Provincial flood mapping standards and best practices to do that.

The Feds are kicking in 145,500 dollars, the province 129,500, the CVRD 10,000 dollars and the City of Duncan and Cowichan Tribes will each contribute 2,000 dollars to get the work done.

Once complete it will help local governments determine where to make investments that could reduce, or even stop the effects of flooding.
