Hospital Foundation steps up to support hospice

The Cowichan District Hospital Foundation has launched a Community Matching Campaign in support of Cowichan Hospice House.

The Foundation is challenging residents of the Cowichan Valley to raise up to 500,000 dollars that they’ll match dollar for dollar.

Alison Taylor, chair of the Foundation said helping Hospice House raise the funds to build 10 end-of-life beds connected to Cairnsmore Place benefits the hospital too so it fits with their mandate.

“It’s a good way to help our hospital right now. We are looking forward to a new hospital in 2024 but in the intervening period our hospital needs some relief in terms of access to beds and by moving end of life care into a dedicated facility it opens up other beds for true hospital purposes.”

The money raised during the Matching Campaign is on top of a one million dollar pledge the Foundation made earlier this year.

The Cowichan Hospice Society is looking to raise 10 million dollars to build and furnish the new facility and has raised 7 point 2 million dollars up to this point.
