Island Health wants Meadow Park septic systems up to scratch soon

Residents of Meadow Park with failing septic systems will have to bring them up to code, according to Island Health Officials. Last May North Cowichan passed a bylaw that would have seen all 33 homes in the neighbourhood connected to municipal sewer lines.

That didn’t sit well with several homeowners, who successfully petitioned to get the bylaw scrapped.

Dr. Paul Hasselback of Island Health says now that they won’t be hooking into the municipal system they want to see lot owners with faulty or failing systems replace them quickly.

Hasselback says if this were a new subdivision, there’s no way it would be approved without being connected to a public sewer, and he isn’t ruling out a collective solution for Meadow Park in the future.
