Land Matching meeting goes Saturday

There are a number of incentives to lease out your unused farmland to an up and coming young farmer.

One of those is, by having a farmer on your land, you can save a considerable amount of money on your property taxes.

A workshop will be held Saturday where young farmers, or landowners, can learn more about the nuts and bolts of the Land Matching program which is new to the Valley.

Azja Jones Martin is the Cowichan Land Matcher.

“It’s just nice to know that there’s someone on the land, co-stewarding it with the landowner and making sure that those couple acres, or whatever they are leasing is being taken care of and put it it’s highest and best use.”

The workshop is at the Cobble Hill Farmer’s Institute Hall on Watson Avenue in Cobble Hill from 1 to 6 Saturday.

Then, from 6 to 9 the community is invited to a potluck that will feature a farmer slideshow.
