Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias affect 70,000 residents of this province, however, that number could be much higher.
Rosanne Philbrook, a support and education coordinator with the Alzheimer’s Society of B.C. said there’s an early stage support group starting here for those who have some form of dementia.
A wait list is being taken for that program.
The Society is also raising awareness about a helpline that people can call if they’re starting to see changes in themselves or someone close to them and want to learn more about the warning signs and how to get a diagnosis.
The helpline number is 1-800-936-6033.
There’s also a program called, Shaping the Journey starting in Duncan Friday, where people with dementia and a partner can meet others in the community who are dealing with similar issues.
