Routley takes up case of Cowichan Valley woman waiting for transplant

Cowichan Valley MLA Bill Routley wants the Health Minister to assure the family of a Cobble Hill woman that a lack of money won’t keep her off the transplant wait list.

47 year-old Tami Walker needs a double-lung transplant… but she’s being told by Vancouver Coastal Health she has to have 25-thousand dollars in the bank for after care before they’ll put her on the list.

At the Legislature yesterday, Routley challenged Health Minister Terry Lake to do something.

Lake says the government would never let financial difficulties prevent people from getting treatment, but he didn’t offer any guarantee he’d intervene in Walker’s case.
