Police attention on distracted driving to continue

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say a recent distracted driving project resulted in 37 tickets being handed out.

Mounties say, on November 15th, from 7:30 in the morning through to 4 in the afternoon a team of officers headed out to six different locations throughout the North Cowichan and Duncan area.

Plainclothes officers identified offenders.

One of those officers says the response from the motoring public was overwhelmingly positive.

He says about a dozen people tried to give him money and that opened the door to a conversation about the realities and consequences of panhandling.

Besides the distracted driving tickets, 5 were handed out for failing to wear a seatbelt, 1 prohibited driver was caught, one ticket was given out for panhandling and there were 2 written warnings given.
