Don’t have parcels left on the step

The Nanaimo RCMP have some suggestions for those expecting parcels this holiday season.

Mounties say around 2:30 Monday afternoon a Nanaimo homeowner was actually home when he noticed a courier truck drop a parcel on his step, but he was on the phone so he didn’t immediately retrieve it.

Just minutes later, the homeowner caught site of a small dark older model car driving out of his driveway and when he went to get the parcel, it was gone.

Police say later that afternoon, a neighbour came by with his parcel that she said was found opened and lying on the side of the road, several kilometres from his house.

Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP says there’s a good likelihood of this type of crime continuing to happen and to ensure you get your parcels it’s a good idea to have parcels delivered to your work or friends house when you know you won’t be home or use a locker service at the courier.
