With a week left before the electoral reform referendum ballots must be received, 37 per cent of the voting packages have been sent back to Elections BC.

Due to rotating strikes at Canada Post, the deadline was extended until December 9 and Elections BC is reporting that the Parksville-Qualicum riding has the highest engagement in the province, as 46 per cent of the packages have been returned.

Voters are deciding on whether to keep the first-past-the-post voting system or opt instead for the proportional representation system.

In order to move to the new system, the ‘in favour’ vote needs to be 50 per cent plus one.
