Adopt a Family makes Christmas better for working families

The Adopt a Family program is well underway in the Cowichan Valley.

The program is operated by the Cowichan Neighbourhood House Association in Chemainus but anyone in the Valley can participate.

Arlene Robinson said there are a variety of working families who just can’t stretch their dollars for Christmas gifts and a festive dinner and that’s where the program kicks in.

“They fill out the form and they can put on there three things that they would like to get for Christmas, no more than 30 dollars each. We will try to see that they get at least one thing that they really want.”

The donor can also supply a food hamper which includes a breakfast and a full Christmas dinner, but Robinson says the program can be tailored to what the sponsor can afford.

Last year 124 hampers were handed out to families who might otherwise not have had the means to celebrate Christmas.

To participate you can contact the Cowichan Neighbourhood House Association at 250-246-3203, or email to cnhaoffice.gmail.com.
