Cowichan District getting a cut of this year's provincial school bus money

The Cowichan School District is getting some new buses as part of a 9 million dollar package from the province.

The province negotiates bulk deals with bus manufacturers, and this year they’re giving 22 districts money for 79 buses.

The Cowichan District will get 390-thousand for 3 buses to replace the ageing ones in their fleet.

The Education Ministry estimates the mileage put on school buses across BC in a given year is the equivalent of driving across Canada 5-thousand times.
