Another derelict raising concerns in area waters

Yet another derelict boat is making waves in the area.

This one is on the verge of sinking just off Gabriola Sands Provincial Park.

The 12-metre Kymac was abandoned at a marina back in June… and the Coast Guard pumped out 650 litres of bilge oil and diesel, but plans to tow it went awry and it ended up adrift.

Island Trust Chair Sheila Malcolmson says it’s an all-too familiar issue.


Malcolmson says the Islands Trust and the Union of BC Municipalities are continuing to push the provincial and federal governments to find a solution.

Nanaimo Cowichan MP Jean Crowder also has a private members bill on derelicts that’s due up for debate before Christmas.
