Preventing violence against women takes centre stage in BC

The Cowichan Valley is joining the rest of the province in raising awareness about violence against women as part of Crime Prevention Week.

The executive director of the Cowichan Women Against Violence Society is Jane Sterk.

She says signs of abuse go beyond just physical.

Sterk says in the valley they offer help through victim service workers, counselling programs and a safe house just to name a few.

According to the ministry of justice…nearly seven in 10 Canadians have known a women who has experienced physical or sexual abuse.
