The province is hoping off-roaders will start registering their dirt bikes, ATVs and snowmobiles, before it becomes mandatory next June.
ICBC started taking registrations this month (for a one-time fee of $48).
Registration is part of a set of new rules for off-roaders that also includes the right use roads for short stretches to get from one part of a trail to another.
Rob Hanna is with the Mid-Island Snowblazers. He’s also a regional director with the BC Snowmobile Federation.
Hanna says the Federation is urging to province to make one change; they’re worried about the potential for injury and damage to machines if they have to use metal license plates – and they’d like a decal system instead.
