Local firm among med pot companies getting Heath Canada warning on advertising

Health Canada is warning 20 medical marijuana producers, including the Cowichan Valley’s ThunderBird Biomedical and Nanaimo’s Tilray, to tone down their advertising.

If they don’t comply by January 12th they risk penalties that could include losing their licenses.

Health Canada says advertising can only include basics like brand name, proper or common name of the strain, the price per gram, the cannabinoid content, and the company’s contact information. It can’t say anything about the symptoms various strains can treat.

The companies also have to limit how they present the product on websites and through social media.
