Crown: Pompeo to have new trial on charges connected to '09 shooting

A Vancouver Island RCMP officer is going to face a new trial on charges tied to the shooting of a suspect.

David Pompeo was convicted in 2013 of aggravated assault for shooting Bill Gillespie during a traffic stop 4 years before.  He was with the North Cowichan/Duncan detachment at the time.

In August, the BC Court of Appeal ordered a new trial.

The Crown had the option of letting things stand at that, however, the Criminal Justice Branch confirmed this week they’ll go ahead with a second prosecution.

Pompeo is currently with the Nanaimo RCMP.
