BC Ferries has an idea is says could save travelers money, but it’s going to take a couple of years, and still needs the OK from the Ferry Commissioner.
BC Ferries says the “Fare Flexibility and Digital Experience Initiative” will help cut costs, and allow them to offer “off peak” discounts and no charge reservations. CEO Mike Corrigan says they eventually want to make taking the ferry a lot more like taking a plane.
Corrigan says they hope to start the new programs on the main Lower Mainland – Vancouver Island routes in 2017, and then roll it out on the other routes.
Corrigan says their website and IT systems need upgrading first. That could cost up to $15 million, which is why the Ferry Commissioner needs to sign off.
