Duncan shelter helping plenty of homeless due to cold weather

The Warmland House in Duncan has been busy with the recent cold weather in the Cowichan Valley.
Administrator Shannon Vieling says the shelter is seeing more people come through the doors in comparison to the same time last year.
She says out of all the homeless that have arrived, very few have done so involuntarily.
Vieling says there have been times where the 40-person shelter, which is located on 2579 Lewis Street, has gone a little over capacity.
She says they offer a safe place to stay the night, food, clothing and showers…and will continue to be open with a rain/snow mix expected over the next few days.
