The NDP Ferries Critic says she’s quite concerned about BC Ferries latest proposal to spend $10-15 million on a “Fare Flexibility and Digital Experience Initiative”.

North Island MLA Claire Trevena says the plan to create a fare system with off-peak pricing and other incentives will be problematic.

Trevena says BC Ferries should be treated as part of the highway system. Trevena says she is also concerned about the digital experience part of the plan.

As for Ferries CEO Mike Corrigan’s claim the plan will drive up traffic three to five per cent and pay for itself quickly, Trevena says the easiest way to do that would be to lower fares.
