Salmon research gets big financial boost from BC Salmon Farmers Association

Salmon research on the Island is getting a $1,500,000 boost from the BC Salmon Farmers Association.

Don Noakes, Dean of science and technology at Vancouver Island University, says the funding comes as part of the follow-up to the Cohen Commission by researchers, the Pacific Salmon Foundation and Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Noakes says the money will be spread over five years for research into things like pathogen transmission between wild and farmed fish, wild fish migration and ecosystem health.
