If you’re planning to take a ferry, you might want to hold off until Wednesday.

BC Ferries says it’s dropping the 3.4 per cent fuel surcharge as of the 17th. Ferries has faced a little criticism for not moving sooner to remove the extra fee, in the face of plummeting oil and gasoline prices.

But Deborah Marshall of BC Ferries says the problem has been that the price for diesel both at the pump and in bulk like Ferries buys it, hasn’t been falling as fast.

Marshall says given the contracts it’s already reached for future supply, Ferries anticipates it will be able to avoid another fuel surcharge for the rest of this fiscal year and next.
