An outbreak of the mumps has benched 14 NHL players, (including Sidney Crosby seen above during a press conference on PensTV) and local Medical Health Officers say people should take note.
Researchers suggest mumps is making a resurgence because fewer parents are getting their kids vaccinated.
Island Health MHO Dr. Charmaine Enns says there have only been 3 cases on the central Island in the last 6 years, but she says it’s still a good reminder to make sure you’re fully vaccinated.
Until 1996, people were only given 1 dose of the MMR vaccine, and doctors say 2 doses are now required, meaning some people may not know they need a booster.
