Island Health investing big in mental health, substance use services

Island Health is investing more than 12.3 million dollars in the next year in services to help people with mental health and substance use issues.
Kelly Reid is a Director with Island’s Health. He says the money will go towards opening 28 new substance use beds and 14 new tertiary mental health care beds across the island in 2015.
He says three new intensive case management teams and a new assertive community treatment team will also be created to help clients recovering from serious mental illnesses and addictions.
Reid says Island Health’s budget for mental health and substance use services in 2014/2015 is 168 million dollars.
