Island Health expects spike in flu cases to last at least another week

Island Health says there been a big increase in people having to go to hospital because of flu.

181 cases so far this flu season, there were 151 in all of last season

Medical Health Officer Dr Paul Hasselback says most cases are H3N2, which seems to be hitting mainly older people.

Hasselback says most people are still getting some protection from the vaccine, even though it’s not perfectly matched to strain of H3N2 they’re seeing

Island Health is reporting outbreaks at facilities in Nanaimo, Port Alberni and Victoria, but none so far in the Cowichan Valley.
