RCMP launch criminal investigation into fatal crash on Malahat

RCMP say they’ve opened a criminal investigation into a fatal crash on the Malahat.

Just before 8 PM Saturday a southbound car veered across the road, slamming into a rock cut, just south of Mill Bay.

Corporal Darren Lagan says a 46-year-old passenger was killed.

Lagan says the criminal investigation involves the possibility the 45-year-old driver, a man from Victoria, was impaired by drugs. The other person in the car was a 60-year-old woman from Esquimalt.

RCMP say they’re hoping to hear from anyone who saw the crash or saw the car, a 2002 grey 4-door Pontiac Grand Am, before the crash.

If you have information call South Island Traffic Services at 250-416-0352.
