Nanaimo authorities looking into YouTube video

RCMP, Vancouver Police and the Nanaimo Ladysmith School District are trying to figure out if students from Nanaimo are responsible for a YouTube video showing various ways they’d kill a teacher.

The video started to get North America wide attention after it was discovered by a US radio host, who was talking about it on Facebook.

BCTF president Jim Iker has also expressed concerns about the video.

Nanaimo RCMP Constable Gary O’Brien says there’s nothing to suggest the incident happened in the Nanaimo area. He says SD68 officials are trying to identify the students in the video, but haven’t been able to do so.

O’Brien says their investigation is continuing.

Even if it turns out the video was made by Nanaimo students, it’s unclear if anything in it would qualify as a “threat” under Canadian law.
