VIU getting nearly $400k from province for new equipment

Vancouver Island University is getting $399,000 from the province for new trades training equipment. Andrew Wilkinson, BC’s Minister of Advanced Education, says they’re investing just under $1 million in VIU, Camosun College and North Island College.

Wilkinson says the investment is part of BC’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint, designed to address the demand for skilled workers in the BC. They’re expecting around one million job openings over the next 10 years.

Vancouver Island University will spend the money on specialized equipment including an industrial model power plant simulator for engineering students, and a class 8 transport truck for heavy equipment operator and heavy duty mechanic students.
