Governor General talks innovation, education and mental health while in Nanaimo

The Governor General’s been touring western Canada and on Thursday he made a couple stops in Nanaimo.

David Johnston got a behind-the-scenes peek at the inner workings of Harmac, which has bounced back from bankruptcy in 2008 and now employs just over 300 people.

Johnston says the employee-owned, value-added business model is one that should serve as an example for the rest of the country, as Canada strives to build a healthy economy.

Johnston also spoke to graduating VIU students on Thursday, and was presented with an honorary law degree.
