BC Ferries, Fortis strike deal on LNG fuel for new ships

FortisBC will be supplying the liquefied natural gas for the trio of new ships that BC Ferries is building; including one for the Tsawwassen – Southern Gulf Islands route.
The 2 companies have signed a 10-year contract.
Mark Wilson, BC Ferries Vice President of Engineering, says the first of the dual-fuel ships should be up and running by the fall of 2016.
Wilson says while the ships will also be able to run on diesel, they hope to rely mainly on LNG, which will be cheaper.
