Lefebure: CVRD & local government need authority, funding for water management

Water management and governance was the focus of a Cowichan Valley Regional District presentation for North Cowichan councilors on Wednesday.

Mayor Jon Lefebure says the CVRD and local government need the authority and funding from the province to deal with issues like the Cowichan River running dry.

He says the presentation also let landowners know the consultation stage is underway.

Lefebure says the watershed governance project is a long-term goal. On the other hand, raising the weir at Lake Cowichan is a short-term solution, one the province currently controls.
