Supreme Court of Canada rejects CVRD application for crematorium ruling

The Supreme Court of Canada has rejected the CVRD’s application to hear an appeal of a provincial appeal court’s decision to allow a local crematorium to operate as a commercial business.

The CVRD filed the application in October after the BC Court of Appeal overturned a lower court’s decision, and in turn ruling the crematorium as legally zoned.

Cheif administrative officer Brian Carruthers speaks for the CVRD.

The owner of the Cowichan Valley Crematorium is Harold Wallace.
 Wallace says the crematorium began operating again recently.
