Major blaze turns three Mt. Washington chalets into ashes

No injuries after a major fire reduced three chalets on Mount Washington to rubble late Thursday night.

Witnesses report the blaze was sparked in one chalet, and then moved to two neighboring ones.

But firefighters didn’t respond. Don Bardonnex is Courtenay’s Fire Chief. He says they’ll only go to fires outside the Courtenay Fire Protection District in certain circumstances


In a referendum six years ago Mount Washington residents rejected a proposal by the Comox Valley Regional District to set up a fire protection service on Mt Washington.
