Nanaimo Airport rounding up support in bid for federal cash

The Nanaimo Airport wants to expand and they’re asking area municipalities for support to help them get federal money for the project.

John Craig is Chair of the Nanaimo Airport Commission.

He says congestion is becoming a problem, and they need to expand if they want to attract more flights.

Craig says the cost, including increasing the size of the terminal, would be about 11 million dollars.

Craig says they want as many letters of support as possible to make their case to the Building Canada Fund.

The City of Duncan has already agreed. Ladysmith and the CVRD, which have seats on the Airport Commission, are expected to offer support as well.  In fact, Ladysmith Council has the issue on its March 2nd agenda.
