Nanaimo’s economic development chief says Helijet service will benefit Cowichan and Comox Valleys

Helijet is starting flights between Nanaimo and downtown Vancouver March 11th, and the head of the City’s economic development corporation says it’s going to benefit travellers from Duncan to Courtenay.

Sasha Angus, of NEDC, says another transportation option for the mid-Island will be good for business.

Angus says Helijet will be able to offer flights at night and in weather that leaves float planes grounded, adding some reliability for business travellers.

The company plans to offer up to seven return flights weekdays out of a new heliport at Nanaimo’s Cruise Ship Welcome Centre.

Bernie Dumas, President & CEO of Nanaimo Port Authority adds, “This new link between the central Island and the lower mainland provides more choice for business travellers and tourism, and is a positive addition to our local business community.”
