UPDATE: Fire at WFP’s Port Alberni sawmill

Fire investigators will be at the Western Forest Products Alberni Pacific Division sawmill Wednesday, after a blaze swept though the mill late Tuesday.

Nobody was hurt, but it took firefighters from Port Alberni, Sproat Lake and Beaver Creek several hours to get things under control. (photo courtesy City of Port Alberni)

The City of Port Alberni is also praising the WFP employees for quick action in their initial response to the fire.

The extent of the damage is still not clear.

It’s expected the mill will have to be shut down for at least 2 days.
