RCMP will be out on the main Island highways this weekend as a province-wide crack down on distracted driving continues

Staff Sergeant Mark Whitworth is with the Traffic Services Division.

Whitworth says when they’re on the road RCMP often spot drivers who are so distracted by their phones the don’t notice the police car following them.

BC recently increases the penalty for the distracted driving, adding 3 penalty points to the standard 167-dollar fine.
