Youths arrested for suspected drug dealing in Duncan Park

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say calls they’ve been getting about suspected drug deals going down in a Duncan park have paid off with arrests.

RCMP say they had a call last Thursday about suspicious activity in Centennial Park, and when police got there they spotted 4 teens aged 14 to 17.

One of the them, a 17 year old girl was allegedly carrying marijuana packaged and labelled to sell, along with things like scales, a grinder and bongs and cash.

The also say a 14 year old boy was found with a container police believe was used for cocaine.

Three of the teens were released without charge to their parents. The girl will be in court in May. In the meantime she’s been barred from the Park.

Police say the arrests were only made possible because someone thought to call police right as they saw the suspected drug deal… instead of waiting.

Constable John Taylor says when youth gather in the park they’re only there for short periods of time, so it’s important to get tips about suspicious activity as it happens

As the weather warms up even more, we expect the legitimate users of the park to be able to enjoy the area with their families,” adds Corporal Krista Hobday.
