Somenos Marsh project aimed at improving wildlife habitat set to start

The Somenos Marsh Wildlife Society and Municipality of North Cowichan are joining forces for a pilot project aimed at improving the marsh for wildlife.

Planting parties will start on the week of March 16th, as the project kicks off with a wetland pond being built along a part of Beverly Street.

Coordinator Elizabeth Bailey speak for the Somenos Marsh Wildlife Society. She says the initiative will help improve water quality.

Bailey says North Cowichan and Environment Canada are helping pay for the cost of the project. She says if everything goes according to plan, 10 wetland ponds will be built.
