Islands Trust wraps up multi-day business meeting with adoption of budget

The Chair of the Islands Trust Council says he’s happy with what got accomplished at their meeting on Gabriola Island.

Peter Luckham says Trustees gave the OK to a 2015-16 budget, that outlines 7.5 million dollars in spending with no tax increase.  In fact, Bowen Islanders will see a drop in the Trust portion of their taxes.

Luckham says there were also some positive discussions with local First Nations, with a focus on improving communication to strengthen relations in the future.

Luckham says the meeting was well-attended by residents of islands throughout the Trust area.

They raised issues like getting the Trust to join the David Suzuki Foundation’s Blue Dot initiative and tackling concerns around Gabriola’s local transportation system.
