The Nanaimo Ladysmith School District is facing a 4.5 million dollar deficit, and they want the province to know just how that’s affecting SD68.

Board Chair Steve Rae says the district is working on a communications strategy to get the word out.

Rae says their situation is not unique. There are 60 districts in the province all facing similar financial pressue, with less and less funding coming from the province every year.

SD68 is also launching a 30-day consultation period on the idea of a 2-week spring break and four other recommendations from the district’s calendar committee.
