Police: Latest scams involve fake Iceland lottery letters, cheques in mail

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP want people to be on the lookout for any suspicious cheques or letters they get in the mail.

Police say a Duncan man recently received a cheque for over 26 thousand dollars which ended up being a scam.

In addition, they say there is a letter around that claims you have won 1.6 million dollars from a lottery in Iceland.

Police say scammers get your money by telling you to pay taxes and fees…and want you to respond by sending a letter to an address in New York City.
