Island Health recognized for work to improve hiring of First Nations employees

Island Health has been named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers, for its Aboriginal Employment Program.

It’s the third time the Island Health program has won the award.

Steve Sxwithul’txw  is the coordinator.

Sxwithul’txw  says they their goal is to have more than 1000 Aboriginal people working for Island Health by 2020.

“The work being done by the Aboriginal Employment Program is an inspiration to all of us at Island Health,” says Dr. Brendan Carr, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Through collaboration, learning and listening, the program supports people to find careers that promote health and wellness perspectives of Aboriginal Peoples.”
